The Literacy Circle 'Learn to Read' Phases

LiteracyLittleSteps is a pre-reading program for children from (approx) four years of age. This course focuses on phonology (sounds system of a language), phonics, handwriting, vocabulary, speaking and listening. Our students achieve reading readiness making the pathway to reading much easier.

LiteracyLittleSteps:

  • cultivates phonemic awareness so that the each sound in small three – four sound words can be identified e.g. dog is d-o-g, man is m-a-n, stop is s-t-o-p, coat is c-oa-t
  • teaches correspondence between letters and sounds (alphabet mastery)
  • develops oral blending skills (phonemic awareness)
  • expands English vocabulary
  • delivers explicit instruction in phonics
  • matures handwriting skills incorporating fine motor development
  • advances initial stage grapheme blending skills.

When a student have achieved the skills in LiteracyLittleSteps, the next step LiteracyBigSteps.

LiteracyLittleSteps is taught in the Australian Literacy Circle centres, with Literacy Circle tutors, teaching resources and students materials for pre-schools or components can be purchased individually through the online shop.
